Georgia Tech Class of 2025- Waitlist Thread

Anyone taken off of waitlist? From last year’s thread, there was a first wave of waitlist taken of around this time. Looking to see any chances at this.

I remember someone said that the first wave last year was around April 18th.

Thank you, that gives a little hope😊

I think it was earlier than that - around this time. Rick Clark (head of GT admission) just posted something on Twitter about deposits being down at public peer schools (no mention if that is true at GT or not).

Did Anyone waitlist students received email from Georgia tech financial aid office

Admission decisions will always be communicated by portal. Has she checked there? Likely just a reminder as the FASFA deadline to file is approaching. If she is instate she will need to file that or the Ga Futures form for Zell or Hope.

Ok thanks.

I just read through class of 2024’s waitlist thread on cc and the first waitlist acceptance was April 4th. not sure what that means for us though

With a lot of schools delaying decisions this year, things will be slightly later this year. Last year first wave of waitlist admits was about a week or so after Ivy day, and it will be similar this year too. A lot of kids that make it to GA Tech, also apply to Ivies and will always wait to hear back before they commit. This year things will be delayed, so we may hear back around mid April first as by then people would’ve started to withdraw spots. Also, many kids will just accept a university and will wait for their offer to expire in May, so majority waitlists will hear back in May.

I think everyone get an email about waitlist update from GA Tech. The email was just an update saying how many students are in WL and other FAQ.

Hopeless situation with close to 5000 on the WL

it was around the same number last year and 600 people were offered a spot! I really hope we get lucky!

There are 700 more this year. Odds are much lower than admittance odds but it’s not impossible. I imagine the longer they wait, the more people decline a waitlist offer because they have roommates, selected a dorm, etc. It will all depend on who they need to round out the class and whether you meet the criteria. Definitely a wake up call though and time to get excited about where you are going to commit!

If there are “700 more” on the waitlist than last year and they “offered” again to 600 on list, the odds may well be actually substantially higher now than in RD for OOS students. Especially if the 600 offered are actually what was yielded (aka, the number that actually enrolled) because that would mean many more than 600 offers were sent out. Fingers crossed for my son and yes he is making plans to deposit at one of his other excellent, but not GT, spots.

Well, everyone’s wait lists took a huge jump last year due to Covid. Many more were offered waitlist spots across the board last year than typical (UVA offered 915 where the year prior they offered 8). My understanding is the number of spots offered is not the yield which is much lower. Also remember the gap year students that are enrolling this fall - there was a large jump in those as well. Last year was an aberration in waitlist offers - it remains to be seen if this year will be the same. It is certainly not something to count on, particularly as you need to fit in a specific slot to be offered a waitlist spot (in state, OOS, international, major, etc). Many waitlists are also need aware - not sure about GT but they do say that financial aid is unlikely other than loans. Many factors at play! Good luck to your son wherever he lands!

If there were 600 admitted, the waitlist acceptance rate last year was roughly 14 percent which is same as overall OOS acceptance rate. It varies wildly from year to year though and this year may vary even more due to increase in waitlist size, covid financial restraints (either keeping people in state or preventing people from paying OOS tuition), etc.

I recently got admitted to another fantastic Computer Science program, and though I was hung up on Georgia Tech for a while, I think I am going to opt-out of the waitlist. So if you’re an OOS, CS major, your odds just went up by +1!!

Congratulations! I wonder if that is part of the reason they sent the email out - so people can withdraw their waitlist if no longer interested. Best of luck to you!
