@itsv, Thanks for your comments. We probably won’t qualify for any aid anyways. I was hoping my son would qualify for the merit scholarships offered by GA Tech to parlay some of the OOS costs. But now that seems very unlikely. Push comes to shove, we can manage the financing provided the college he gets into is worth it.
Accepted. I’m psyched!

@nhsrikanth No problem.
The Honours program at Rutgers, as well as NJIT, would no doubt give him this platform (these are the public schools in NJ that I know of personally). It is very easy to get involved in CS research. Having seen what GT looks for, I’ll shed some more light here. If you are a student coming in from any Public school (preferably with a CS doctorate program), with a 3.8 +, some research with a professor, REU’s (which are relativley easy to get, especially in CS), and pretty decent GRE scores, GT’s M.S. program WILL take you. I would also suggest your son to look for an internship with one of GT’s divisions. Then, he can come down here and see how its like. I love GT, but would advise you not to waste money for undergrad, and then GT will hopefully pay for his M.S. (there’s plenty of funding available). PM me if you have any questions, and I wish you only the best.
@MichiganGeorgia I suspected that. It’s ridiculous as his stats/EC’s/tests/everything are way above mine from when I got in. And here we are…sigh…
I also thought it might be a blessing in terms of saving the OOS tuition for a year. But odds are he’ll go to another OOS school and then GT is just the safety valve if he doesn’t like it. Colorado School of mines accepted him in November.
For son:
Happy he was accepted, but probably won’t attend without FA or scholarship (OOS)

General Comments: LMMMAAAAOOOOOO. Wasn’t high on the list, but that doesn’t diminish the magnitude of the rejection to any extent, and I’m overall just confused.
Any hint of Tuft’s syndrome with Tech this year? Sorry, I’m a little bitter to say the least. Does my GPA really bring down my perfect scores/EC’s significantly? I know it wasn’t the essays, I’m a pretty decent writer.
Regardless, congrats to those that got in!
@honeyclover The specific major you choose does not matter much unless you choose computer science or biomedical engineering, the two most competitive fields at georgia tech. I have a friend who applied to gatech with computer science, and he also was rejected. But then I also know a friend who applied to the biology field but was deferred. My deferred friend had lower test scores and GPA than those of both of us.
@james1998iq damn… a person with a 36 ACT rejected… Affirmative action is real.

@pcftcp Just a theory here:
Tech will accept as many in-state kids as they can, and then they will move onto others. In your case, deferral is probably way of saying that they will accept you later, just not now. I would be surprised if you weren’t accepted RD - your stats are killer.
