Georgia Tech OOS Aid and Worth

Hello,

I am an OOS applicant to Tech this fall. I currently live in Maryland and was considering Tech as a viable option due to its excellent engineering program and opportunities as a result of its location, size, and reputation.
So, I was wondering, what exactly is the aid situation like for OOS applicants at Tech? I understand admission is getting progressively harder each year and since Tech moved to the common app, this year will be no exception; this may, however, constitute Georgia Tech a good investment.
Are there any specific grants or scholarship Tech provides for OOS students and, if so, is there any sort of application process for such things? Are there any other means of attaining aid?
As said before, I live in Maryland so UMD College Park is another option and because of its cost might outweigh Tech if no aid is given. I really loved Tech when I visited because of its location, large-scale research institution status, and its general atmosphere and challenge. However, I will have to weigh in cost and, obviously, admission decision in order to base my decision. So what are the means of getting aid for OOS students? Also, how worth ("bang for your buck") is Georgia Tech and what makes it stand out over places like The University of Maryland?

If anyone has any input, please answer. All help is appreciated. Thanks.

GT is one of the top public schools in the country. If you are doing engineering, without a doubt you are getting value for your money. Also, if you get accepted to GT, you have the flexibility to switch any major.

I wouldn’t count on any OOS aid. However remember GT is big on co-ops. You could do co-ops and it would help pay for your college.

I was also a Maryland student who was deciding between College Park and Tech.

Protip: When you’re deciding, look at it from an out of state perspective! I know Maryland is “Just Maryland” to a lot of people in state, but it’s one of the best institutions in the United States and has quite the impressive student body.

Out of State aid is pretty much nonexistent. I got a 6k grant or something. Maryland is much cheaper and gives much more aid. Would have ended up being in the neighborhood of 20k cheaper per year to go there.

That said, that 20k a year is worth it if you hate Maryland and love Tech; just don’t expect Tech to be leagues ahead of Maryland.
