I just received notification today that I was selected as a Semifinalist in the Georgia Tech presidential scholars program (~530 of 12,000 applicants were selected or 4.4%), and I was wondering how big of a deal this is/if you guys think I have a decent chance at some of my reach schools?
Quick stats
GPA- 4.9
Rank: top 2%
SAT: 2310
White Male from Southeast (not Georgia however)
Solid EC’s and recs. I think my essays were solid as well.
I applied to the following reach schools:
MIT
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Stanford
Columbia
Duke
I was wondering if you guys knew how applicants who were also selected as semifinalists for this scholarship at Georgia Tech in the past have fared at these top schools?
Congrats! Its really hard to gauge your success at the above schools without more details. Your SAT scores and grades look fine. However as you know all of those schools are incredibly competitive and have an admit range in the single digit range. Good luck!
Don’t get too excited. Son is in the semi-finals for full rides at several schools(Ga. tech type stats) and he still got deferred EA from MIT. It’s all a crap shoot with those schools.
^^agree with above. OP. I have looked at your old chance threads with a clearer “profile” (and nothing really stands out)…and I see that you applied to Harvard SCEA…were you deferred? If deferred…it is rather meaningless (since they defer almost everyone). If you were deferred from Stanford it would mean something much more…that you had good chances at the other schools. But getting a deferral from HPM or Y leaves you at the “shrug your shoulders” phase…meh [-O<
