Someone please help! Im trying to figure out whether georgia tech or georgia state university is better for me. I want to major in biomedical engineering. Also what is the overall enviornment of both colleges. I know they both are in downtown atlanta. But is it always hustle and bustle since its downtown. Im also looking at colleges in rural areas like university of georgia. I jus need help deciding on a college

If you want to do engineering at highly suggest gtech over Georgia state. But I suggest you visit both to get the feel of each campus because Penn state up was high on my list but after visited it wasn’t what I wanted so it’s basically off my list of where I will choose. So although gtech might be a better school you might feel more at home at Georgia state also keep money into consideration. Hope this helps.

Is this a trick question?

Tech is one of the top half dozen or so schools for engineering in the country. It has a beautiful, self-contained, traditional college campus despite being in Atlanta. Georgia State has no campus per se - it’s just a collection of buildings in downtown. It’s not particularly distinctive from an academic standpoint, but has been working recently at trying to become more of a traditional college and less of a commuter school. I wouldn’t call UGA rural - Athens is the fifth-largest city in the state with > 100,000 population, and is one of the most progressive cities in Georgia.

Ok thanks! Well i guess i didnt really mean rural, i jus meant not in downtown atlanta. I didnt know georgia state didnt have a campus so thanks for that. Oh and i live in ohio but ive been to georgia many times. I plan on visiting both colleges this summer. My other state would be South carolina, any good colleges there?

I’m trying to get my son to look at Furman. It’s a great liberal arts college and an unusual one - twice the size of most LACs (just < 3,000 students) with Div. I sports and a good football program and marching band - very unusual. It’s like Wake Forest Lite. If it’s not the most beautiful campus in America, it’s in the top 5. Clemson is 20 miles down the road from Furman, and everyone from there loves it. LOVES it! Bleeds orange! I don’t get it. It’s a good Southern tech university in a little town with a pleasant-enough but not necessarily stunning campus. But ask Pierre0913 . . . Clemsonians think they’re in heaven. The College of Charleston is a little lower on the list academically than Furman and Clemson, but it’s in one of the real gems of American cities, with a fabulous, historic campus.

Georgia Tech. Not even close

No question here, Georgia Tech unless you have a really good reason not to

Georgia Tech is the clear choice, even if it is more expensive, since you will get much stronger recruiting opportunities and will quickly earn back the initial cost difference.
