Hi,
I am International Student, who has been granted admissions to GTech and UIUC for Electrical Engineering. Rankings wise, both universities are quite close, so my decisions are based on the following criterion.

Which University will provide for good research and internship opportunities in the sophomore and junior years?

Accessibility of Professors- Out of the two, professors of which university would be more accessible and interested in teaching under grads?

Where would class sizes be smaller?

I will probably minor in Business Administration. How do the two stack up with respect to this field?

Financially both are similar, with Gtech being around 45k p.a and UIUC being around 50K.

Both UIUC and Gatech are peers in engineering schools. Gatech’s all undergrad majors are in top 10 in US (as per USNWR). You can’t go wrong with either one. The choices of UG research opportunities, access to professors, etc will be about same. It will come down to location. UIUC is in a rural area whereas Gatech is in heart of downtown Atlanta.

fliqer - do you have facts to prove your statement “I would not want to be in the South as an international student” ? Or is it just some old wife tale ?

Both Gatech and UIUC are pretty close to each in overall ranking and individual engineering major rankings.

FWIW - my son is accepted in both UIUC and Gatech, but he is interested in BME which is much higher ranked in Gatech vs UIUC. So I am not even considering UIUC. We are considering between Case Western and Gatech.
