Got into applied math at UCLA. I really want to switch into mathematics of computation. Missing one prereq (Physics II) for applied math, but four for mathematics of computation (missing discrete math, intermediate C++ and advance C++ and physics II). Planning to take a Physics II over the summer at CC, so I would only need take 12 courses for applied math or 17 for mathematics of computation during my six quarters at UCLA if I am I able to switch. I also got a summer job with really good pay. I can’t do both, since they conflict with one another, which is the better choice?
I always suggest taking a break from school for the summer before transferring. You worked hard to get through CC, and you probably need a breather before you begin the next phase of your life. You don’t want to get burnt out halfway through the year.
UCLA quarter system might decide physics 1 and 2 into physics a b c ( three quarters a year of physics.) so taking physics might be tricky.
If you submitted SIR you have access to your conslor. Talk to them and make academic plan.
Summer job might be tempting, but for your hard core stem major, I think taking one physics2 might feel like breather.
Talk to UCLA counsler. Talk to your conslor as well as the counsler of the other dept.
