^ i hate how GPA is subjective

^^me too... oh well, good thing those kids in Jman2306's classes probably won't get into top colleges because their SAT scores would suck, despite getting the easy A in AP US

I don't know how much of a difference it makes, but our school is extremely competitive with test scores and it's in a high class area (I'm poor though lol).

The tests are not easy. Lots of "EXCEPT" questions and social history questions. I'd say that the kids with a 96% or higher in our APUSH classes are going to make really good scores on the exam (about 9 out of 40 students).

I know that a kid in my class got a 1530 out of 1600 on his SAT (old sat) when he was in his junior year.

Jman, what state is your high school in?

Our teacher gave us a few easy grades - no curves, no extra credit('cept once)

I am in Florida. Not the best for education :D . I think we rank 40 something out of all the other states.

But, our school is always in the top 10 as far as standardized tests scores.

Its not that American Pageant has bad info, its definatly informative, and does cover alot of the bases regarding American history. Yet, what gets me is the humour. The guy who wrote that book as a rather dry sense of humour. He was actually our commencement speaker last year.

^^^

Really? Because Thomas A. Bailey, the author of the American Pageant, died back in 1983... unless you mean one of the book's modern editors.

Yeah, I'm talking about David M. Kennedey

reread the chapters a couple of days before the test. To get familar with it again. Two nights before I make an outline of the chapter. Outling the chapter by putting it in your own words is the best technique for me. Can also take practice tests at http://college.hmco.com/history/us/kennedy/am_pageant/12e/students/ace/index.html

ap us is a very difficult class at my school. i swear, the teachers TRY to fail kids.

but i have an A, 95% :-D. damn proud too, because i do hella work for that class

It's one of the toughest AP's I think I'll ever take. Somehow I'm managing a 94% (had a 100% until a 73% on my last test brought it down). I don't think I'll take any more history AP's after this year...I'm sick of them. I'm more of a math/science person, except for Chemistry (extremely boring).

Jman, what happens if someone gets 100% on all assignments, but gets zero on the tests... B? lol

I find that reading the textbook just got me frustrated in world history and US history. Buy Princeton Review and Amsco and read the corresponding chapters in those books. They are way shorter and easier to read while still telling you what you need to know and nothing more. Plus, they give you multiple choice questions remniscient of what you will see on tests and the actual exam, and it sure helped me a lot. Make sure to go online too, as most textbook sites also provide practice questions that reinforce any information missed by the review books. I guess I never had an affinity for reading or history in particular and I was just trying to beat the system the best that I could. I promise you though, this method saves time and energy. BTW, I got a 5 on both exams.

kirklandalanbob, yes haha. Assignments > tests.

i have come to a conclusion to get an A in my APUSH class:
hack my teachers computer and get all his tests
that is how desperate i am...all my peers in my class are willing to pay for tests too...this just shows how crazy my teacher is...
im willing to put money on it that he is the strictest, meanest, pickiest APUSH teacher in the country

in my class we have 10 page papers every single week. our teacher says 9 out of 10 kids will get 5s on the exam.

^^Wow, all the papers we do in class are like 45 minute DBQs and Free response papers, and we've had one test for the past two months, lol

10 page papers? thats all? lol

I'm doing 8 page outlines, 1 page doc analysis, 1 page focus question answers, 1 page zinn journal, 3 pages vocabulary, and 4 pages DBQ response per week.

So about 18 pages per week. I hate my teacher......

^your teacher is having you do too much. S/he either loves torture or loves grading. In my APUSH class I think I had 10 written assignments at most and maybe 5 were actually graded instead of completion.
