Get myself an independent study class in High School

SO I'm trying to form my academic plan for high school. For 9th grade now I have
PE
Algebra 2
Biology
English
World Geography
ROP health essentials
And then I have a 7th period Band so I can fill my A-G requirements as soon as possible

In sophomore year I was considering to take Spanish AP(class possibly but is independent doable) because I already did in 7th and 8th grade. Then in Senior year(after some independent practice) I think it would be time to take AP span lit. Also in Senior I was thinking about filling it with a bunch of science/history AP classes and maybe through out High School I could take independent APs along with AP classes. How does this sound so far?

The Spanish you learn in 7th and 8th grade probably isn’t enough to skip right into the AP as a sophomore, especially as an independent study. Why aren’t you taking a Spanish class freshman year?

Honestly, it sounds like you’re in over your head. Spanish might have been easy in 7th and 8th grade, but AP Spanish is a whole 'nother beast.

Aside from the vocabulary, unless you have a good grasp of how/when to use all the tenses (present, future, imperfect, preterite, conditional, present perfect, plu perfect, etc.) in both the subjunctive and indicative and know how to conjugate irregulars… I would advice against trying to independently study Spanish AP.

You do not need to take all the APs available in order to get into a good school.

LOL @ ROP Health Essentials.

ROP is for losers.

What’s wrong with ROP

Does your school not have honors classes? Or am I to assume your classes are all honors?

Also, if your middle school Spanish classes were anything like mine, I’m pretty sure that Spanish consisted of very basic present tense conjugations and simple vocabulary. I highly doubt you have already studied in depth all the tenses as LaTina pointed out above and the vocabulary to have a relatively strong reading comprehension.

Try taking a couple more Spanish classes first. In my school, you have to take up to Honors Spanish 4 before you move on to AP or IB Spanish. Otherwise you’re just not ready! They really prepare you because in mine, there is no speaking English once you reach spanish 3 and 4 and simply being forced to speak only in Spanish for about 1 hour+ a day for 2 years, really helps.

The reason I don’t really want to take Spanish again at my Junior High is because you dont really learn a lot the computer is a better teacher no offense to my teacher though and I picked ROP because I wanna decide on a career and excuse you for dissing ROP its my first week and I like it r u gonna say that avid is for losers too

DOnt judge unless u provide proper backround no offense

ROP aren’t academic classes. I’m guessing you’re from California (because you mentioned A-G requirements), so I assume that ROP health essentials is supposed to meet the health requirement?

I wanted to take ROP Auto Shop, but my English teacher convinced me to take an academic elective like Psychology instead. It’s supposed to look better to colleges.

We’re not asking you about taking Spanish again at your Junior High. Wut? How/why would you do that?

Why aren’t you planning on taking Spanish in your freshman year?

I’d suggest replacing the Health class with Spanish 2. There is no way that you are ready for AP Spanish with only 7th and 8th grade Spanish. I’d think you’d need at least Spanish 3 before taking AP Spanish.

Also, are you taking any honors classes your Freshman year? That’s the first thing that stuck out to me and colleges like to see them (if your school offers them).

WOw u guys are good u got me thinking. Actually yeah I think I’ll take a Spanish 3 before I try AP spanish. Actually now I’ll just try and learn the langueage independently and my school has acelerated not honors. I like ROP and juniors highs dont really have really cool unique electives like economics or psychology. The only issue is if I take AP spanish I might not have room to jam my AP or (but a remote possibily IB) classes but its quality not quantity that counts rights. Its cause theres so many classes to pick I simply cant just pick one. Besides theres a possibility that the teacher might teach me one to one in independent study at the hs. Well thank you for yr help guys :)
