Has anyone taken the SAT II Korean test who wasn't a native speaker and got an 800? If so, what test prep materials did you use, how long had you been studying it, etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Bump! :)

just to let you know, even koreans who take SAT korean can’t get 800. a big difference between that test and the other language tests i guess.

then again native koreans aren’t nearly as grammar-oriented in what we say compared to those who learn it a bit more technically in classrooms.

That’s worrying. :D

I’m guessing you’re right about grammar, however - I’ll probably end up knowing more about Korean grammar than English grammar by the end of high school! In your first language, I think everyone has a more intuitive or improvisatory approach to grammar.

I’ll respond as a native Korean who lived in Korea until the age of 8 - I got a 790 but I think it was a bad test as I have friends who came to the US in their teenage years and they got a 790 on that test. My younger sister (she came when she was 6) got an 800. The usage and vocabulary section actually wasn’t a challenge for me because as others have said, it’s intuition, but the reading comprehension section trumped me as I faced vocab that I don’t use in daily use (convos with other parents, k-dramas, music) but I think an 800 is fully feasible as long as you have a good grasp of vocab. (and English vocab too - my friend missed a question because she didn’t know was “customs” in an airport was loll)
