I'd imagine that sth in the area of international relations would be a good idea.

"do u know which discipline we have to major in to qualify for that post."

any major that can help you land a job in the UN or state department is fine. if you're looking to move up the ladder, your major won't matter so much after initial appointment. to move up the ladder, it will depend on your PERFORMANCE as a diplomat/ambassador.

but some popular majors would be international relations, political science, international development studies, global studies, but you are not limited to that.

If any students/schools are interested in attending the UCLA Model United Nations conference to be held in November 11-13, 2005, please read the "Mailing 1" invitation packet and register online at their website:

If no internships available, check out tour guides.

You should check out this thread on my site. It will give you some solid info on getting a job in international development or international relations.

...If you want to be a diplomat I don't think you should be looking into working at the UN yet. Start at your foreign affairs office.

That's good advice as well. Take the foreign service exam. If you are from the US, try to get an internship in an embassy or apply to the International Development Intern program at USAID (if you are interested in international development as a focus).

Hi,
I am also interested in an internship at the UN but more health or science related. I am a freshman at a top 10 liberal arts college, fluent in five languages (including French) and am planning to take Spanish next semester.
Are there any internships that suits my interests and background?

If you want health or science, you should be trying for WHO (World Health Organization.)
