So I was banking on going to UCLA, but after seeing how hard it is to get into their Comm department I decided to apply to a couple more schools as a backup. My second choice being Loyola Marymount. Well, when applying to UCLA as a transfer you do not need a letter of recommendation, however, LMU does. Basically I have until November 30 to get one from a Professor, or I am screwed.

I have all A's and one B in my classes, so I don't think it will be hard to get a Professor to write one, but it is on short notice and truthfully I don't think my Professors will really remember me, or I haven't "bonded" with them that much.

Anyone gotten their letter of recommendation yet? I've heard people email Professors this request, is this the best way to go about it?

I’m procrastinating asking my professor for a letter. I am not going to email but I think I might write him a letter stating what college(s) I need the rec for, what I’m going to major in, what my grades are, etc. Basically, just a little bit of background info about me because, like you, I have never made strong connections with professors.

Anyway, I’m going to write this letter, attach it to the recommendation form, a stamped envelope, and personally hand it to him and ask if he’d write the recommendation for me. This way he sees me and has a face to put with a name but also has the letter I wrote him so he can think of something to say possibly. I don’t know how this will work out but I think it’s a good plan. It might be awkward but if it gets me to where I want to be then it’s worth it.

I just don’t get how to make a closer relationship with professors unless you need help. I’ve tried going to professors to ask questions that went beyond what we learn in class and I always get the attitude, “You don’t need to worry about that, it’s not on the test.”
