Getting a new stove -- recommendations?

Breaking down and finally getting a new stove/oven. Must be gas. Anyone have a brand/model you love or loathe?

Just to confirm- 100% gas or dual fuel?

Wolf. Worth the cost if its in budget.

I have to admit that I have never had a stove that was dual fuel and didn’t know it was an option. I suppose I’d like it to be 100% gas.

Be sure to at least get a good vent hood and use it every time. Or get an electric stove instead of gas.

Oof. I’d pay a premium for something nicer, but I don’t think I could justify spending that much.

Blue Star and Vent-a-hood.

I’ve had Viking and Wolf. Neither can hold a candle to the open burner Blue Star. They’ve been making ovens in the US since 1880 and simply don’t break.

Vent-a-hood invented the range hood. It pulls like crazy.

Can’t recommend both enough.

Folks we know with gas cook tops have electric ovens. They said for things like baking this works better.

If I could get a gas stove, that’s what I’d get…duel fuel. Gas cooktop with electric oven.

Would be helpful for OP to list a budget. There are “sky’s the limit” budgets and…not. !!!

I love to cook on gas as well. I even had gas installed nine years ago when we moved into our house. However, there’s a lot of press right now about the hidden environmental cost of gas stoves.

We know that. It has been posted here in every thread about appliances. Let’s just assume that OP does not have megabucks to add another 50 amp circuit for an electric stove and let’s help the OP with her oven selection.

Interesting.

Seriously, check every appliance thread.

We have a GE Monogram, 4 burner with griddle. Love it. We also have a Vent-a-hood.

I don’t want to limit convo in anyway even though I don’t have an unlimited budget. :slightly_smiling_face:

We got a fancy GE. Is it a GE Cafe? I would look for something that is in-stock and easily available. I don’t even remember what kind it is again but it works well. I let my husband pick the one he liked from a nice local store.

We got a gas cooktop. I wanted drawers under the cooktop to keep my pots and pans etc - so the oven is placed elsewhere in the kitchen. Electric oven. I really like the separation of the cooktop and the oven. Cooktop was Jenn Air.

We might need to replace the cooktop sometime soon which might be a bit of a challenge since we’ll have to fit it into the same slot as our current one, with the granite counters.

We have a dual fuel. Gas ovens are harder to clean than electric.

We had a Wolf dual fuel range. In fact, we had three in the last house. Wolf replaced the first two. Our Wolf 48" range was not exactly 48", nor was it the same width as other manufacturer’s 48" ranges, so nothing else would fit. I couldn’t find anyone willing to cut and polish the edges of the granite to squeeze in a teeny bit wider range.

Aside from the width problem, the reason Wolf replaced it was that the blue porcelain interior flaked off repeatedly. Maybe that problem has finally be solved; I hope it has. You might check the kitchen and appliance forums at Houzz to see if there are still complaints about Wolf, or suggestions on other ranges.

Call me old-fashioned (or just old), but I still swear by Consumer Reports. I think they are relatively unbiased, unlike so much of the review material online.

Here’s a link to the 2022 range/stove survey by CR. I am sure you can get full access to this through your local library: Best Ranges of 2023 - Consumer Reports
