Are incoming freshmen recommended to have a job at Cal? I've heard from some that it allows them to manage their time better but not for others. Care to share experiences? Also, what job would be a good fit for any schedule?

I have work-study btw.

What’s your major? Workstudying in a job relevant to your major adds to your resume, allows you to learn more about the field, and, as you said, betters time management skills.

I read about a study that showed full-time students who work 10-15 hours a week have higher GPAs than those who work 20+ hours a week.

I’m also curious about this. @Katsurou- I’m thinking of possibly majoring in political science or something related to pre-law. Do you have any advice as to the kinds of workstudy I could do in those fields?

@weebly: Haha well that does make sense. I found that the semesters where I joined a sport in HS allowed me to manage my time better, and thus get better grades.

And I’m thinking of majoring in CS. Is it better to go with a job related to CS or just a job like security monitoring where I have plenty a time to study?

Anyone here tried to support themselves in an apartment (with roommates is the only way its possible I’m sure) while full time in classes and have any advice? Also, how easy is it to find part time employment in the Berkeley area? Want to hear some experiences…
