Getting a spot in Snell-Hitchcock

Hello,
I got accepted to UChicago during the RD round, so I fear that it'll be too late to get a spot in Snell or Hitchcock. If I could get a guaranteed spot in one of those houses, I'd go to UChicago in a heartbeat, but it seems as though it's too late. Anybody here get a spot last year after getting accepted from RD?

I’m curious as to why where you’d live is a deciding factor in your going. There are a number of other dorms and houses that are pretty cool. I mean, sure, Snitch is the most sought after dorm but being unable to live in your first choice house is certainly not a reason to not go to the university…I think anyway.

Shutterstock, I hope someone who can answer your specific question will join in. For my part I will relate my son’s experience which is that he did not send the deposit last year until the next to the last day. His choices in order were Snell Hitchcock, Max P, South. He did not get any of those. Nevertheless he is very happy with his housemates and his living situation, despite the fact that this winter quarter was one of the schools (and Chicago’s) coldest and snowiest winters. He had lived in the South all his life and he took it as a challenge. Best of luck to you as you make your decision.

Have you visited? My D was hell bent on Snell or Hitchcock until she visited and did an overnight at Hitchcock. During her visit she got to see some of the other dorms and when she committed, BJ was her first choice. “No contest” she says.

^^ It is all personal taste. But I thought South is the most sought after dorm now a days, not so much when it was opened.

My D didn’t like South because it was modern and “sterile.” She liked the older gothic buildings because they haev more character. We’ll see how she feels after living in one for a year.

My UChicago grad was a happy Brecker all four years. Everyone wants Snitch. It doesn’t happen.

I agree with everyone else–this is a ridiculous reason not to go to Chicago. Nearly everyone ends up liking their dorm, most people move off campus by third year anyway, and there are plenty of other dorms that are just as nerdy and tradition-filled as Snitchcock. I loved my time in Snitchcock, but my friends loved Breck and BJ and even Max just as much (also beloved were Shoreland and Pierce…may they live forever as dorms in our memories).
