I could not agree more about COVID effects. My daughter’s doctor actually says that she has been seeing a lot of teens who experienced this pandemic as a major trauma. My oldest one came back after the last semester at college almost paranoid. Her college had very strict restrictions in place at first that eased up just a little bit lately. Now she thinks it is the only way to go to the point of not wanting to get out of the house, look for a job, etc. because she spent last few months among people who got tested 3 times a week and were masked 100% and now that’s the only way she feels safe and she thinks the rest of us lost our everlasting minds to be getting back to normal life. I work with younger kids and even the ones who got to be in school this year seem to be more high-strung than usual. I can only imagine what the next school year is going to be like when kids who spent more than a year in isolation are going to be back. And it’s funny to see how babies/toddlers are so skillful in communicating with their eyebrows now, because they were with masked teachers for 8-9 hours a day during their sensitive period for language development, but then it’s not funny at all. We will be seeing the effects of the last year for years to come.

It hurts my heart to think about what young people- and their families- have gone through. And now so much anxiety about reemerging too…
(My 94 year old mother is in assisted living and she and her fellow residents also suffered- all age groups have been affected).
