Hey guys
Does Rice engineering grade harder than the public universities(Umich,UIUC, G-Tech, Berkeley) ?
Is there any grade inflations?? Since I am considering grad school, college gpa will be important..
Thanks.

rice is hard
engineering is harder
grade inflation is for the weak
you'll work hard, but in the end you'll know your stuff and get a good job

Don't grad schools take grade inflation into account? They know what an A means at one school compared to an A at another.

I can only tell you what my son said about the grading at Rice. He graduated '07 with a B.S.E.E.

Always spoken with a touch of sarcasm, he thought that the only "real" students were the engineering students. Courses weren't graded overly harshly and there were plenty of opportunities for "redemption points" to bring your grade up. Rice grades with A+, A, A-, etc. He said that very few of his engineering profs gave out any A+ grades. I never saw his grades, despite the fact that I paid all the bills, but I think he said he graduated with a 3.76 GPA.

He knew of some humanities type majors who handed in work AFTER the semester was over and they still got credit. He said any grade inflation was happening somewhere else. But that doesn't matter.

Grad schools know undergraduate programs. Major firms know undergraduate programs.

My son chose to get a job after graduation. Even though Rice has a 5 year straight Ph.D. in E.E., he wanted to work for a while. He told me that at a job interview, he apologized that he forgot to bring a transcript with him. The interviewer laughed, saying that it wouldn't be necessary. Why? Like I said, major firms know programs.

Grad schools know programs. Raw grades are irrelevant.
