Hello~ it's my first post here, but I have kinda a lot of questions so I think I'll just list out my questions :)

1) Dec 1st, I read that it is a courtesy for the Admissions Office. My question is: Would spots like get filled so that chance of getting admitted is lower after Dec 1st?

2) I DO know that Harvard selects many, diverse people, but I just want to know the odds:
My Stats:
SAT: 2210
SAT Math II: 800
SAT US History: 800
SAT Physics: 790
ACT: 35 (Writing is scored yet)
AP Calc BC: 5
AP US History: 5
AP Physics C Mechanics & E&M: 5 for both

GPA unweighted: 3.9
Rank: 22 out of 372 (Yeah... Physics C did hurt o_0)

EC:
Played flute for 1 year in Concert Band, 3 years in Symphonic/Marching Band
NHS Member since senior year (planning to volunteer for Duke Cancer center)
Chair of ByLaws Committee at local youth town council (founding member; this is my 2nd year)
2 active years in Science Club (went to regional science olympiad twice as JV... won 2 first prizes)
1 year in Algebra 2 Club (went to competition but got owned)
1 year in History club (my team went to state competition and got owned... club vanished the next year)
4 years in Quiz Bowl (Not THAT active, but I was selected as a part of team that represented the school at the local TV game show for high schoolers; also went to another competition at UNC...advanced to quarter finals)
4 years in model United Nations - probably most important of my high school life... 1 year as a regular member and 3 years as the Co-Chairman of the club. After my freshman year all upperclassmen left so my friend and I had to reestablish the club. I won two first prizes at local contests sponsored by the local UNA-USA chapter, and I went to 5 big and small conferences sponsored by universities (mainly UNC and Duke... because of distance) and won 1 excellent delegation (2nd place) and another best overall delegation (1st).

+100 volunteer hours (school requirement is 50), mostly from working at UNC Morehead Planetarium Summer Science Camp. (i just can't imagine how people have like +500 hours;;)

One of my essays is about the hardship I had gone through while working with my friends for a project for the aforementioned local UN contest. I generally wrote how it taught me to compromise and value team work
Another is about my preparation for SAT and how it changed me to see the world and others in different sight... but I have rewrite this one since my counselor thinks it's a bit confusing :(

Well, that's about it. Thank you for reading, and I hope you all good luck!

Honestly, I don't think you have a major shot. Definently send it in, as with Harvard ALL bets are off, but there is nothing that sets you apart from any student who is also applying. You have decent (for the majority of Harvard) GPA and decent SAT scores (not terrible, but compared to the rest of Harvard not so great). You're ACT and SAT II's are incredible, those will offset the SAT I scores, but for Harvard caliber it should just make you a high reach, like every other student. The rank is a blemish, and the EC's don't show any dedication except Model UN. Your essay sounds really canned and cookie cutter as well. How can a preparation for a terribly made and flawed standardized test (SAT scores are a load of crock) teach you to look at the world in a "different light". Just sounds lame. Overall, you qualify for a good shot, but your lack of setting yourself apart from the pack will kill you in admissions. Apply, but DONT hope for the best. You should really look to Cornell or Upenn with such good credibility, however.

@ TValentine - SAT II's, or SAT Subject Tests, measure a variety of subjects and are not part of the actual SAT. They are individual exams, and Harvard requires at least 3.

i'm not so sure that i could jump to a conclusion. u do seem to have a sense of humor...i couldnt stop laughing when i read "my team went to state competition and got owned... club vanished the next year."

good but not good enought, your essays sound cheesy as hell, no offense.

nothing significant, whats the hardship in having the privelege of doing something, and everyone prepars for SAT's and learns or has an ephifany, lol hope im not being too harsh

I'm applying to HYP, georgetown, johns hopkins, duke, washU in st. louis, UNCCH, Wake Forest... What do you think?
Maybe I should've considered Cornell, but hey...
