I'm a currently a resident of Arkansas. My dad listed me as a dependent for his tax form this year. Out-of-state tuition is expensive and I don't want my parents to pay that much. For financial aid, all I recieved was loans. I know I will be considered out-of-state for my freshman year of college, but I was wondering if there was any way to get Texas residency my sophomore without my parents moving to Texas. I am willing to get a job.

You may find answers to your question here:

Can your parents buy a property in Texas in next 2-3 months?

If my parents were to buy property there, would they have to live there?

I have the same question and from what I can tell - yes our parents would have to live in Texas.

It has an interesting section:

Which means a student TA or RA (research) could receive instate tuition if working at least 20 hrs a week. This would probably be quite difficult with UT being such a tough school and usually these positions are reserved for upperclassmen.
