Getting into a top MBA program as an engineer?

Hey everyone, I'm wondering how difficult this would be considering how hard it is to get a 3.5+, let alone a 3.9+ GPA as an engineer. Its obviously in another tier of difficulty in comparison to liberal arts degrees but do top business schools care? Or will you be auto screened out thanks to a "low GPA"?

I want to get into management and obviously you don't have to get into a top MBA program to get into middle management as an engineer, but if I were to move to another field, it certainly would be helpful. Not to mention necessary depending on the field. Thanks beforehand!

What’s your definition of a “top” MBA program?

Do you plan to work as an engineer for a few years before moving to management? Or do you want to go straight into investment banking?

If you want to work for a few years in engineering, then plan on taking an executive MBA style program, that you company likely will help cover the cost. Plenty of CEO’s have gone this route.

If you’re trying to go the investment banking route, you should check out the Business forum for advice. The only Engineering major that may “naturally” go this route, to my mind, is IE (with a focus on Financial Engineering).

Hmm, no I am more interested in marketing. From what I understand an MBA is a good opportunity to change fields. Its about security for me, as an engineer if I DON’T get into a top business school, I still will have a steady job that pays well, whereas if I graduate in marketing and I don’t hit it out of the park, things don’t look so bright lol…

I would still have a good time in any type of management however.

What does your work experience look like?

2 years working at an employment agency, if I were to get an engineering degree, I would assume I would be working a minimum of 3 years before pursuing an MBA.
