Getting Into Classes

My friend just got back from CTOPS and he said that they gave them a sheet of the courses that are still available, and that it was only half a page of courses left. Can anyone make any sense of that? He had the second session of orientation out of 13 and they are almost out of classes?!?! He said that most first year courses (Calc 1, Bio, Chem, Comm 9, etc) are already gone. That just doesn't make sense how they can all be filled up with 3,000 students left to register. Any explanation? Could that just be the courses he can take? (He hasn't placed out of any courses with AP's or SAT II's)

there are spots reserved for incoming students when you register so don't panic. So if you have to go to the last C-tops you will have the same odds of getting into a class as the other C-topers. See there are reserved spots for each C-tops so its fair and all. But don't worry, if you have to sign up for bogus classes if what u want is full, because the system reopens for everyone at the end of august and there will be open spots then, i plan on dropping a class or 2 and picking up another one in its place.

and just so you know, I've never had as hard as a time registering than my first time a C-tops, its usally easier. but becuase you guys are freshmen you do get last pick.

registering is pretty fun, its like a game when you get to register for the spring because your just competing against your peers, fighting for the remaining spots in the classes you want, then everyone goes to eat brunch and you see your friends and talk about how'd you do and all.

You're the only person I've ever encountered who thinks it's fun - everyone else I know finds it incredibly stressful! Thankfully, it does get easier and easier as you climb in the ranks, although even registering as a senior for the upcoming semester, I had trouble with one of my desired courses being full at 10:01 AM (registration begins at 10 for the uninitiated).

the thing is you gotta have a game plan before you start, be logged onto student central before 10am and have backups. I had a painful, stressful time though registering for my spring classes this past year, I had to go somewhere and I wasn't back until 3pm the day the system opened and so I got stuck with crappy classes until the system reopoened in January.

Yeah, I did the logging in early and opening several different windows thing, but it was a Spanish class, and, as we all know, when it comes to Spanish, even the best laid plans...
