Good morning
I’m a female Undergraduate mechanical engineering student. I’m interested in you Aerospace engineering Master program and I want to apply soon but I have a question , before that I want to give you some information
1- My GPA is 3.3 .
2- GRE exam mark is 163.
3- Tofel exam mark is 100.
4- I have one year experience in composite materials/aerospace engineering and mechanical engineering: I used to work as a research assistant while studying.
5- I have a published paper related to composite materials .
My question is:
1- I had a bad issues during my first and second year in college so my GPA was very bad. But I handled the situations and raised my GPA to 3.3 and 3.75 in the last 70 hours, my question is will the bad GPA effect my application although my overall GPA is 3.3?
Why are you still on academic probation? You have pulled your grades up. Get the academic probation note lifted from your record.
It’s not clear if OP is still on academic probation. I see no reason why she wouldn’t be able to be admitted to a graduate program somewhere.
Yes, of course, a low GPA will affect your admission.
However, that doesn’t mean it’ll keep you out of graduate school, especially if you did so well in your last 70 hours that your overall GPA is a 3.3. You can still be competitive for master’s programs at a lot of places.
Do not be fooled by the college admissions stats. There are many stories of the perfect gpa/test scores person not getting accepted in to the college of their choice. A student who went from fresh/soph scholastic probation to a respectable gpa, will be a great story for any admissions counselor. Make sure your essay puts a positive spin on the “whys” and you will be just fine. I can’t imagine the effort and focus it took for you to dig yourself out of that hole and get ready to graduate with a gpa that would make most proud. And depending on where you are applying, most look at your grades for your major and/or your last 60 hours of course work. Make sure you submit a few apps for the top grad schools and come back to cc with a great story in a few years.
Welcome to the forum @fatenissa - The advice given above is all good. While your overall GPA may not be great, make sure that your recommendation letter writers focus on the fact that you have done well over the last two years of your studies and that you have done research significant enough to be published. Apply to several of the more selective graduate programs but apply to at least one program that is not quite as selective. There aren’t that many Aerospace Engineering PhD programs out there and you can identify the right ones by looking at the research being done by the faculty which matches your interests.
Good Luck!
What admissions counselor? Graduate admissions are typically handled by faculty committees at the individual department, not by a team of university bureaucrats. Graduate admissions are also much more subjective.
now I’m in good standing, but the probation still in my records
All that mattrs is that you are in good standing now.
thank you very much you made my day
