Getting into History Graduate Program at another school after Carolina?

Hey guys, so, where to begin...
I've completed three semesters at a small, public liberal arts honors college in Florida. However, I've currently gone on medical leave, and I'm debating whether I should come back and continue working really hard, or transfer to a bigger state university with a far easier class load. I'm aiming to go to try and get my doctorate in history from a mid-tier state school (somewhere like FSU), preferably away from my home state of South Carolina. I'm wondering how difficult this will be if I transfer to Carolina but do not transfer into the honors program. Ideally, I would transfer into the honors program, but I'm afraid that because I have passed each semester but have failed classes (all of the classes at my school are pass/fail, therefore no GPA), I wouldn't be able to get into the honors college.

I'm wondering how much it'll screw up my chances of getting a Doctorate in history at somewhere like UGA or FSU if I transfer into Carolina but maintain a high GPA and perform well on the GRE. I'm thinking that having a much lighter course load would leave me a lot of free time to devote to history-related extracurriculars (ie museum volunteering) that might help on a grad school application (this has been difficult at my current school). I'm also thinking that because I'm used to small classes that are primarily discussion-based and because I'm used to honors-level work that I'll be able to impress my professors with my ability to participate in class discussions.

Does anybody have any input on this?If any of y'all know anything about the honors college, maybe you can help me out, too!

I don’t think it’ll hurt your chances to grad from USC without honors as long as you have hight GPA specifically in history classes. Upper level classes will be smaller in size. You will have to speak to honors but I’m afraid failed classes will hurt your chances. There are straight A students that don’t get into USC honors. 1380-1470 (cr+m) was 50% SAT score last year…would you have met this as HS senior

USC does have some neat history programs, like a masters in public history that might interest you. Even if not wanting masters at USC, might mean some good opportunites.
