Hi all,
I know that GATech is ranked really high in CS, and engineering in general.
But how is its reputation among the Silicon Valley industry?
I am reading the annual report from their Career Center and Google approx has ~27 interns/coops students a year. This doesn’t sound like a lot at all, considering how big their school is. Amazon has 20, and Microsoft 15.
I was learning towards GATech over Dartmouth because I had thought that GATech would offer more opportunities to work in Silicon Valley. But these numbers seem rather small. Is this a mistake? Are any of you a current student who can shed light on this (like do you know people from your social circle that has worked in these companies?)
Thanks!
The College of Computing has about 2,350 undergraduate students, which is around 500 per class since some will take more than 4 years to graduate. Assuming your numbers are in the ballpark, that is 12.4% of each class that gets internships at just those three places and ignoring all the other high-paying places places like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Salesforce, Juniper Networks, NVIDIA, VMWare, etc… The most recent graduating class had median salaries of $95.5k plus an average $15k bonus and likely equity on top of that at most places. Also keep in mind that internships are harder to get than full-time offers, so those who don’t intern at Google may well still end up there immediately after graduation or a few years later in their career. All of these places hire tons of people every year.
