Getting Into UPenn as a Transfer Student?

I am currently a freshman English major at Temple University and I would like to transfer to the University of Pennsylvania my sophomore year. I am doing well in all of my classes (I will most likely have straight As by the end of the semester) and I finished high school with a 3.88 GPA. I was very active in ECs in high school. I graduated with my school’s Creative Nonfiction Award and English Award, in addition to several others. I do volunteer work, took APs (I scored a 5 on the English Lit exam), etc. I also have someone at Penn who is willing to speak on my behalf (again). He did so when I was a senior, but I still got rejected.

My biggest flaws are the fact that I did not take a math my senior year of high school (I was afraid it would drag down my GPA, as I’m not good at math) – nor am I in a math now. And I only scored a 1740 on the SATs my junior year. I took them again as a senior, but scored even lower.

I am planning on retaking the SATs in January and would like to break 2000 but I have no idea how that is going to go.

Any advice? Is it worth retaking the SATs?
