Hi I am a senior attending a high school in NJ and I have a few questions.
Last year, 10 students applied to USC from my school and all were rejected. About 7-8 of them were qualified students (I noticed their high GPA/SAT scores through naviance).
I feel that since my high school is so far from USC, that they feel that even if they accepted students they would not attend.
I plan on applying to USC next year, and I am wondering how I can make myself standout (apart from GPA/SAT scores) What should I do that will let USC know that I am serious and interested in their school?
Any help would be appreciated.
Sadly, they don’t offer ED. The best you can do is schedule a visit and interview. Why does SternBusiness want to go to USC? Have you considered Wake Forest? Nicer campus, nicer area, closer to home, highly ranked business program, ACC athletics. They highly value visiting w/ interviewing, and offer ED.
I guess I will interview then, but unfortunately I can’t visit. I like a lot of things about USC, including its location, business school, programs/opportunities offered from the business school, and the sports at USC.
Wake Forest I could also check out, although it would be just as inconvenient to get to, as USC is.
I just got back from taking my son to look at URichmond and Wake (from NJ). I’m also a native S. Californian.
The ability to drive there in one day OR fly makes Wake much more convenient from NJ. Los Angeles, particularly the area around USC, is not nearly as glamorous as you may imagine. Best of luck.
I completely see and understand what draws you to USC, especially its location. I recommend contacting the N.Y. or Philadelphia alumni clubs, either of which will help you land an interview. I believe USC also has traveling reps who conduct interviews. That is one sure fire way to demonstrate genuine interest in accepting an offer of admission.
If considering Wake Forest, research the Greek life. For my son, it was too much of a focus at Wake. Not his scene. He LOVES USC Marshall and has not joined fraternity
