Getting Involved

I am a new student to 'SC, a junior-level transfer from a CC. I have made the decision to not live on campus or near campus as I have it "good" with my parents, living just 20 min away.

However, I understand that fully 50-70% of social interaction and involvement on campus comes from living in the dorms/apartments, joining a fraternity, sports/band, or another major commitment that I would not be a part of.

Any recommendations on how I can get involved?

Talking to people on campus, I also realize that most Juniors and Seniors have become more concerned with finding internships and careers than with having a college experience. With that said, I have the possibility of scheduling all my classes on T/Th only, whereas I am now on campus 4 days per week.

Thanks in advance for any insights and advice.

Fight On!

There are tons of student organizations on campus. There has to be at least a few that interest you. I’ve found that that clubs are a great way to meet people with similar interests if you’re looking to make new friends.

i thnkk theres a club fair thing tomorrow

Yep. Involvement Fair on Troudsdale tomorrow. You should definitely check it out.

How about joining a group that is service oriented? If you are living at home that gives you some extra time.

There are so many people in need. SC has various groups whose purpose is to assist others. Perhaps you might find friends in one of those organizations.
