I know decisions don’t come out for a couple of weeks, but I had question. I applied as a computer science major, and I’m really interested in the field, and I took AP Comp sci this year as a senior. The teacher at my school doesn’t really teach at all, and I really don’t like the teacher at all. I did get a C for the first semester in the class, but I’m thinking of dropping out of the class because it’s just too stressful of a class. I’m still gonna take the APCS ap test, and i know i’m going to pass. My question is that will i be rescinded if i get in for Computer Science, if I call admissions and tell them that I dropped out of AP Computer Science.
I’m assuming you would get rescinded. It’s because when you applied to the UC system you indicated that you were going to take APCS for the second semester of your senior year. The admissions officers weigh in on your senior year class load when they are reviewing your application. Therefore, if you were to be accepted and had dropped the class without notifying them you would have violated their policy of truthfulness or whatever it’s called. Nonetheless if you notify them that you are going to drop I wouldn’t see a problem. However, it should be noted that it is February 28th. It’s a bit late now. However, I would call them to make sure.
@AlexG2016 our school deadline for dropping classes is march 11, and I plan to tell them that I’m going drop the class if I choose to do so. I’m not going to let them discover it when they are cross referencing everything when checking my transcript.
@0921934 Interestingly, UCSD decisions are due March 11th; the same day as your school’s deadline for dropping. I wonder if you could see your admission decision prior to committing to dropping the class.
If you’re admitted, there may be see less chance of a rescission if you were to immediately notify UCSD of the drop and your intentions of taking (and passing) the AP.
Of course, CS is your major and you would be dropping a ‘core’ class; that could be a problem.
Conversely, if you know you’re admitted, you should probably just ‘sweat it out’ and maintain your C (2.0) grade in the class to fulfill the conditional admission contract. (Not fun, but probably the safest route.)
