Getting to Colby

I will be flying in with my S from the New York City area. What is the best way to get to Colby? Thanks.

Fly into Portland ME, rent a car and drive right up Rt. 95. The campus is just a few minutes off the highway. Library steeple is in fact visible from the highway. Drive time is maybe 1-1.5 hours?

Augusta airport is closer, but availability/cost of flights might not be favorable.

Thank you for your reply.

From I-95, take exit 127. You will immediately come to a stoplight which you turn right at (this will take you onto "Kennedy Memorial Drive" also known as "KMD"). Then turn left at the next light you come to (about 100 yards after the first turn/light-- a McDonald's and "supershoes" on your left hand side will give the turn away), and that road will take you right onto campus (well... there's a "y" about a few miles down the road, but just be sure to bear right at it and you'll be fine). The neo-georgian architecture, some Colby signs, and the beautiful ice-covered Johnson pond will be clues that you're on campus.

Enjoy the Maine Winter =).

Thank you.

You got it =).

Werd814---do you think taking 295 is faster than taking 95 all the way?

I have tried both and I used to think 295 was faster, but now I am not so sure

295 is way faster

I would agree with curlygirl61.

295 seems about 10 or so minutes faster than 95, though it does have a few more tolls, heh. Depending on where you're coming from, though, it can be faster to take 95 (if you come from northern/mid NH, there are shortcuts through Windham and Gray, etc.)... but from Mass (and, subsequently, NYC) , I find 95 to 295 to 95 is a bit faster. I find it's also true for the trip from Portland to Colby, except just 295 to 95.

Maine is gorgeous in winter, just rent a car with 4 wheel drive

I hope premed123 is posting with tongue firmly in cheek.

When snow is forecast, driving is rough in a lot of places. The drive to Colby is on interstate highway the entire time, except for the last couple of miles on city streets.

On a non-stormy day, 4WD is not needed!!

Hehe it was tongue-in-cheek. My whole family is from Maine and we get up there fine with front wheel drive all the time. Sorry I should have indicated that I was kidding
