Getting to Salem

Student is looking to attend one of the accepted students Preview Days coupled with an overnight in February.
Not sure that a parent can be in attendance/provide transportation.

What is the easiest way to get to Salem from the Seattle area? Amtrak doesn't seem to run a very extensive schedule. i.e. on one of the days, Amtrak suggests SEA to PDX then on to Salem by bus.

Any other options?

^ Fly to Portland, then take the Hut Shuttle down to Salem. It stops at the Red Lion Inn, which is 2 miles from the Willamette campus. If your son or daughter lets Willamette staff know when he/she is arriving, someone can probably swing by to provide a lift; otherwise, cab fare is really, really cheap. And 2 miles is not that far to walk, either. You can reserve tickets on the shuttle online. Just Google “Hut Shuttle Portland Airport to Salem.” Reverse everything to head back home!

I’m sure they would let you drive him down! It’s not that long of a drive either and it probably would be cheaper than alternative ways to do so.

sorry I was unclear. I am sure they would let me drive him down, too. It looks like the parents will be unavailable to drive, so I am looking at transportation alternatives.
Thanks CalAlum for the tip and to the person who pm’ed me regarding Amtrak. I will post what we end up doing.
