Getting worried about the future

Hello this is my first post on these boards and i'd like to see if my scores can get me to any decent Colleges. I am somewhat worried about the future and since I am a first generation college applicant I am in the dark about many thing regarding college. I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to look at my stats.

Colleges that I want to go to: UC Berkeley(1st choice), MIT(would be 1st choice but too hard), Cal Tech(same as MIT), Stanford(If affordable but highly unlikely that I can make it), UCLA(2nd choice), UC Irvine, UCSD

Recommended colleges from members of the board: (Preferably in CA)

Major: Technology undeclared, Computer Programming, Video game design(not sure), basically anything to do with technology.

Background:Male, Asian American, California lives in somewhat bad suburbs with some gang activity in the area.

SAT1:1960 ( I think I can get this up to 2100-2200)
Reading:630
Writing:620
Math:710

SAT2

Academic Decathalon: A/A

Senior year will probably include 3 or 4 APs and an art class.

GPA: I am really confused on how to calculate these things and I only have my sophomore transcript on me so if anyone could help it would be much appreaciated.
Overall Academic Rank: I'm guessing in the 50s
Overall Weighted Academic Rank: this is probably somewhere in the 40s

I'd have to say in my years at high school my parents arguing contributed to the downfall of my early grades. They still argue now but i've grown accustomed to it. Still somewhat distracting and dishearting though.

EC's(Based on Junior year)
Eagle Scout
Probably have around 300hr of Community service
Raised $1000 for Chinese American Parent support group.
Currently tutor friends sister at roughly 2hr every week or two.
MUN:2 years Secretary of Club
Debate: 3 years elected Secretary twice in a row probably can attain rank of President next year. Went to State and was defeated but highly enjoyed it
Chinese Culture Club: 3 Years not much in this area
Writers Club: Helped friend create the club not an avid writer though
Game Club: Revived this club after previous founders abandoned it however was disbanded due to lack of a teacher to host the club. Was Vice President and raised 300 dollars at Springfest.
Science Fiction Club: not much here kinda just in it for free pizza.

Piano: 11-12 years about to take Level 10 Advanced Theory test.
Chinese School: 12-13 years won lot of awards. Usually was in top 5 of class every year.

8 hours of tutoring at local middle school.
Scored 207 on PSAT so might be able to get Nation Merit Scholar but not win Scholarship
On first team of academic decathalon. Team this year might make state.
Newspaper Editor, Writer, and photographer.

Essays
(My essays might be considered average. However, I do know people who can aid me in writing them.)

Recommendation letters
Not a problem.

So here are my stats. If anyone could offer advice or tell me if its possible to reach my dream colleges it would be much appreaciated.

Also is it possible for me to get financial aid if my parents make roughly 50k each year?

first of all that is one hell of an ec list. i dono if its bs but thats impressive. i say to you if ur stuff is legit dont worry at all esp. if u can get ur sat to 2200 range but dont slack off either.

Really? I've seen longer and more impressive lists on this board. Although I can see why you might think its bs. My moms just a stereotypical asian mother who signed me up for a lot of things. Also thanks for the feedback.

im pretty sure uve heard other crazy lists on this site is like the extreme smart end of the general student population. and cmon man eagle scout plus like board member of like a lot of clubs plus 300 hours of comm. service? thats impressive no matter if ur asian whse mom signed u up for it.

Ah I see thank you very much. Are there any other opinions from other members?

Anyone else i'm still kinda worried here.

i think you have a very impressive list of things giong for you..

..u are a definitely a good match for Georgia Tech.

Check it out.

I can't say its as good as MIT or Cal Tech, but it is known as the "southern MIT" and its located in ATL, so, no worries, its not a hick town.

yeah, im looking again at your credentials...

Georgia Tech. Great School. Check it out.

=)

don't worry about the grades you received in 8th grade; i'm pretty sure colleges only consider the hs grades...

I've never really heard of Georgia Tech. I generally wish to stay in California but if it seems like a good school I might consider applying.

go to this site: College on The Princeton Review

go to their search box and type in counselor-o-matic, I think it is. this leads you thru several questions and in the end, it suggests colleges you could get in, which ones you are a good match with, and thirdly, which colleges are 'reaches' for you, meaning you probably won't get accepted if you apply.

Georgia Tech is a great school esp. if you do want to go to Technological related fields...U should definitely take a look....
Btw, u still have a year, and lots of opportunities to really boost your chances for any of those schools that are your first choice........

Just need to work hard, but I would say ur good till now!

you are in great shape for the UC's..maybe on the borderline for Berkeley. Its hard, without a given GPA. Gonna have to say slim chances for MIT, CalTech and Standford. But you're a junior in high school you have a lot of time to being those grades up. Yeah..dont worry about 8th grade.
Im gonna disagree with everyone else, forget about Georgia Tech. You want to stay in Cali, and first of all its wayy too far, and it costs a lot of money. And, if you are a instate, you should have a good chance at UC's.

Ok thank you guys very much. If I find out my GPA i'll post it here.

Wow, so many B's... that's going to kill you. You need higher SATs and GPA if you want to shoot for the sky.
