gettysburg applicants 2015

hi!!
to everyone who r thinkin' abt applying to Gettysburg!!!

Has anyone attended GC as an engineering major?

Does anyone have any thoughts they would like to share about the college, any aspect?

gettysurg does not have an engineering department, the only engineering major is the 3-2 engineering program, 3 years at gettysburg studying liberal arts and 2 years sudying engineering at one of their associate colleges. its a dual degree major. i am applying to gettysburg under early decision, am an intl’ student,am also applying for fin aid. if anyone has a tip for me hit me up.

Early decision is the way to go for any college if it’s your #1 choice. Early decision applicants are judged by the standard of “Can they do the work here?” Regular decision applicants are judged by the “best qualified” standard which is usually more competitive as the available places in the class have been reduced by early decision.

You can play with the common data set numbers for Gettysburg or any college. Good data in there if you take a few minutes.

Gettysburg College fills nearly half of their first year class with Early Decision. 47% of the Class of 2014 is Early Decision. 346 of 739 spaces. 72% of early decision applicants were accepted. 42% of the total pool of applicants were accepted but that number is skewed high due to the large percentage of early decisions admitted.

Fall open house is this weekend. Come see the campus!

thanks gbdad for that reassuring comment. but what r my chances of getting accepted and recieving an almost full financial aid? i’m an intl’ student, i have 2110 on the SATs, top 5% of my class almost every year through out high school. i am really jittery because gettysburg is the only place i applied to. someone please give me a straight answer.

Fall Open House is 23 October. (I’m having weekend dyslexia it seems.)

I wish I knew the secret to full financial aid other than it is based on financial need, not scholarship. This requires detailed family financial statements. I personally know of two on full financial aid. Neither were special scholars in high school (nor now). Neither applied for early decision and one came off the wait list. (No wait list enrollments this year.)

“International” might be a factor in your favor during general admissions when the committee has several goals they want to achieve.

I doubt you can alter the Early Decision agreement to include a clause regarding what you consider adequate financial aid. Certainly worth an Email to admissions to ask the question or even a telephone call. USA EDT runs thru 6 November. Zulu -0400 hours.

Students (and their families) often have to make hard decisions as to which college to attend based on the financial aid offered. These decisions are usually not possible until mid April after the financial aid data has been computed. “Backup” college is highly recommended.

A stressful time I know!
