I’m hoping some current Gettysburg College students or parents can talk a little about housing on campus. My husband’s read that there aren’t enough tradition dorms/housing options and so the school has created some subpar options. When we had a tour, I remember the guide talking about the motel that was purchased by the school and converted to rooms but our guide told us the residents liked them. Any thoughts? Thank you!
Our son attends Gettysburg College. He has no problems with the housing. Doesn’t seem to be an issue with any of his friends. I think the school logically expanded the campus by purchasing adjacent motels that have come up for sale. He actually lived in one of the converted motels and liked it, but some of the rooms were recently renovated and some were not. So freshman year the kids live in frosh dorms generally clustered by the first year reading seminar they select. After that it’s by lottery and he used his number to pick one of converted motels. He really likes the school. Good luck.
PS you should probably put this in the Gettysburg College Forum as you might have better luck getting an answer there for the specific college.
@MWCDSS Thank you for your response and the tip about the Gettysburg College Forum! I haven’t used CC much so appreciate your help.
My daughter lived in one of the motels (for three weeks) when they returned in the fall. She loved it and would select it again. They are also building new dorms on campus by the football field. I am unsure when they will be completed.
Thank you so much, @345abc !
My D went to Gettysburg and lived in every type of housing they offer: traditional dorm room with shared hall bath, themed housing (house with traditional rooms with shared hall bath), motel (double room with private bath) and 5 person suite with private bath. The motel dorm was her favorite by far. Private bath shared with just her roommate and she had a car which she could park in the lot right outside the building. Some had a/c and some didn’t. She’d say they each had their pros and cons.
Thank you, @vpa2019! This is so helpful! It sounds like the motel rooms are gems in disguise. Our family is anxiously awaiting his admission’s decision! Thanks again!
Good luck! The waiting can be agonizing! My D loved her time there
