Hi all. I would love a rec on where to stay overnight when I take my son to see Gettysburg next week. Close to campus would be great. Thanks

Hi Im not sure if your went yet…but we stayed at the Gettysburg Hotel and it was great…how did you like the college?

We stayed at the Best Western. And, not sure about the school. We had just a lousy tour guide and only did the tour and not the info session. So, it is tough when you have that bad experience AND school wasn’t in session. Campus is pretty, jury is still out.

School was in session when we went…alot of kids around. They all looked happy. Our tour was in a large group. I have another parent in my town whos child goes there and is a junior so I am giving her a call.
I had a private Q& A session with an admissions person. I also met with financial aid.
Is your child a senior? What else are you looking at?

Just curious GCmom415 - How “receptive” were the people in the financial aid office to appealing their offer? My daughter was accepted, but the cost of attendance would put her in debt.

She likes our in-state college where she would graduate debt-free, so now she doesn’t even want to to go to the “get acquainted day” on April 17.

I havent tried to appeal their offer as of yet so I dont know. What instate college did your daughter like?

My D has accepted her offer from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Debt free upon graduation is what’s driving our decision.

Both schools are similar, although Gettysburg locale and architecture are beautiful and there’s slightlhy more to do. Both are roughly 2 hours from home. We have a high EFC and Gettysburg met our “need” up to the COA, but she would still have more debt than we’re comfortable with.

The whole process has been angst ridden. Good luck with your son. I’m sure both our kids will be happy with their decisions. I told my daughter college really IS completely different from compulsory education. From here on out they take ownership of their education.

N&Ms Mom…
Good luck to you as well!!
