Gettysburg College?

I want to be an American History teacher and I absolutely love history, so Gettysburg College seems like the place for me, but I don't know if the town is the only reason why I love it.

Positives and negatives?

bumpbumpbump

I loved that school when we toured it. Also great resources, high achieving students. Negatives is that it isand dolls in an relatively secluded tiny town locale, expensive, small school. Two out of three of those can be positives if you like that sort of thing. It also has merit aid for the student it most wants.

We live fairly near Gettysburg. Students who go there from our high school absolutely love it.

I can give you the opinion of a history major at Gettysburg. I personally think (though I am biased haha) that there is no better place to go to study American history.

I mean, I took a course on the Civil War and during the lecture my professor pointed out the window and said “this is where that happened”. How many other schools can say that?

There is also a minor dedicated to the Civil War and several members of our faculty are at the top of their field (including Prof. Birkner, the go to guy for Post WW2 US history.

Gettysburg College is also known for its small class sizes and attentive professors. Professors here really care-- they will go above and beyond the call of duty to help you, if you show that you care.

The college is highly ranked for its food and has a vibrant greek community (if you are not a fan of greeks dont let this disuade you-- there is plenty to do besides greek life. Plus, you might grow to like it. I came in anti- greek and am now in a frat)

Wow, that sounds great! Thank you so much for commenting!
I absolutely love learning about the Civil War which is why I am naturally so attracted to the school!

Anytime-- Feel free to pm for any specific questions

I love Gettysburg. My son is a junior now.

Getttysburg is a great school to study history at. Especially Civil War History. Small school, small classes, you get to know your professors and they get to know you. Reenactors criss cross campus on the weekends since the school is adjacent to the battlegrounds and the administration building was actually used as a hospital! I would highly recommend a visit, an overnight visit if you can swing it. One word of caution for some would be that there is a very large Greek scene on campus. Freshman can’t join but a large percentage of sophmores, juniors, and seniors are in frats and sororities and much of the social life there is Greek related. For some this is great, for others it is a problem. I hope it isn’t a problem for you. Best of luck.
