I have been accepted to both Gettysburg College and Union College(NY). I've visited Union but haven't seen Gettysburg yet. I was just wondering if people had any views on either of the two schools? I am majoring in history btw.

I was just wondering which had a better rep...look better for grad school...better community atmosphere..location...ect.

A good friend of mine goes to Union and she couldn’t be happier - it was one of her safer schools, but she has absolutely blossomed there and has scored some pretty great summer internships, not to mention an incredible study abroad experience. Can’t comment on Gettysburg.

Union’s reputation is grounded in the sciences and in its engineering program, although they have strong programs in the humanities as well. Gettysburg has a better reputation in the humanities, particularly in history. I think either school would be a good choice, as both have a long track record of success in placing their most promising history students in grad and professional schools. I would probably opt for Gettysburg because it is marginally warmer and because of my interest in the Civil War and 19th century US history – but that’s just me.

Congrats on your acceptances!!! Ironically, these are the last two schools that my D cut from her application list, both with good reputations.

I’ll ditto some of the others to say that you will have a treasure trove of research ops as a History major at Gettysburg, but you should really research both schools’ History department web sites to see where their graduates have gone on to grad school, etc.

I think both locations are OK - Gettysburg has more of a tourist town feel, not all year round though. Guess you being from Florida and all you would have to get used to winter at both places!
