Here's a random one, but I figure some of you can help:

My uncle is a USC alum and has a birthday in a few weeks. I really want to get him something USC-themed for his birthday, but sadly, there aren't "USC Uncle" t-shirts or anything like that.

Do you guys have any suggestions? I live in LA, so I don't mind driving down to USC to pick something up (nor do I mind ordering off the internet, obviously). His birthday is July 19.

My high school let us buy license plate frames that say our school name on top edge and class on bottom edge… I wish USC would let people order a license plate frame like that, USC on top, school with graduating year on bottom (e.g. School of Cinematic Arts '14).

Is your uncle into golf? You could get USC-branded golf equipment. Or poker? The bookstore sells poker sets, and I’m assuming that they’re USC-branded too.

Or how about a football jersey? You could give him:
#55, USC’s most famous jersey number that is traditionally worn by the university’s best linebackers and is assigned only when the coaches feel that there is a player worthy of it. Side note: #55 was recently assigned to incoming freshman Lamar Dawson, so people are very excited to see what he can do.
#7 for Matt Barkley/ TJ McDonald. This football season, most of the jerseys that you’ll see on game days will be #7. But both Barkley and McDonald are considered top players at their positions and thus they might decide to go to the NFL after this year, which would (temporarily) lower the value of this jersey number.
#2 for Robert Woods. He’s a sophomore wide receiver who is probably the most popular player on the team, excluding Barkley. And #2 has been worn by some great players in recent years, including Woods, Taylor Mays, and Steve Smith.

@Lencias-I know! My uncle is the license plate frame guy (literally, he’s bought every single member of my family a frame as a birthday present), and he’s always saying that he’d love one with the year! @Saitsuzen-ooh, I should look into the jerseys…

Victoria,
Is this the Trojan who has the strong background in music? Perhaps he might enjoy two tickets to the upcoming Thornton Symphony Concert or the Chamber Concert in September.

Another suggestion is a Trojan banner or arrange in advance for a private tour of the SCArts complex and lunch at the new Moreton Fig Restaurant on campus. Many alumni have heard the complex described, but have never seen the inside.

Season football tickets are a sure winner. They’re also sure expensive.

I’m pretty sure I have seen “USC Uncle” sweatshirts in the bookstore. Nothing lighter and more suitable for the weather. However, there are stylish USC hawaiian-style polo shirts that might be nice. They’ll set you back a good chunk of change however. Jerseys will run you around $60.

S bought H some USC socks, which he wears with some frequency. He also bought a nice regular polo-style shirt for H. He bought me a RoseBowl shirt the year they were going there as well as a hooded sweatshirt.

If he has a pet, they have some cute pet toys that S bought for his aunt. Maybe you could ask him if he wants to visit you for parents’ weekend in October? Never saw any USC Uncle gear, but didn’t really look.

Idk, I’d personally wait till our football team started being worth mentioning again to get anyone season tickets >_> Although, the homecoming game ticket does sound like a good idea.

Um, last time I checked, NCAA sanctions don’t mean that the games are cancelled, they aren’t packed and that people (especially students and alums) wouldn’t have a good time.

@Georgia Girl-actually, no, but still something he’ll probably enjoy! Although I may want to save that for the other uncle’s birthday in November…
As for football tickets-we’re all going to the UCLA/USC game (and by “we’re all,” I mean that everyone who’s coming to our Thanksgiving celebration is expected to attend the game this year!). My uncle lives in LA, so there’s a chance he’ll want to hang out during Parent’s Weekend.
I love those polos!

I’m so glad I asked you guys about this-I knew you’d all have great ideas!

@victoriaheidi - We’re all glad to help. Good luck on choosing a present for your uncle.

@Lencias -

Last decade’s success spoiled fans. USC people shouldn’t talk down on their own football team; instead, they should be fully supporting it through thick and thin, especially during these times of cruel and unusual punishment doled out by the NCAA. In 1-2 years, USC will return to being a perennial Rose Bowl contender.
