<p>we are going to Jordan to visit the wonderful family hosting my college junior - they are practicing Muslims, dad a doctor, mom works and they have a maid...they have made my student feel very welcome and we would like to take gifts - so far I have some trendy jewelry and two cute but modest tops for the 22 year daughter, two t-shirts for each the 18 yo and 15 yo boys - one a trendy t-shirt with NO skulls, crosses or bleeding hearts (take that, Ed Hardy!), and one from our local college basketball team, going to get perfume for mama who wears no make-up, does wear a white head scarf, but admired perfume her daughter had just bought., the maid wants make-up from America. might get a tie for dad as that's what my kids always got their dad!</p>
<p>Someone had suggested Nike stuff to me -but my child there said no backpacks - that is a joke among the local kids that the Americans carry backpacks everywhere. We already sent over a coffee table book on our state and chocolate (in the shape of our state) but host families are assigned AFTER the student arrives so there were no specific gifts</p>
<p>any thoughts?</p>
