Gifted Income

Hello, this is my first time posting. My brother is starting to apply for college and mother doesn’t have any income. They are supported by me and my brothers father and their financial support can be considered as gifts and therefore no tax returns have been filed. Should this be reported as income on a college application? Thanks for your help.

I’m in totally over my head here.

But how can your brother’s dad’s income be considered a “gift”?? Both my income and my husband’s are considered for each of my kids.

^ I take it that brothers parents aren’t together and brother’s dad is contributing to the family.

Brother will have to report both parents income so his father’s full income would be considered not just the portion he is giving to support the family. And, yes, your gifts to the family are income for them.
