What are some tips for avoiding the urge to overeat? Also what are some good ab workouts? thanks.

ab workouts won’t trim fat. fat is an energy store and in order to get rid of it you have to use it as energy. that means eating less energy (calories) than you burn. Cardio + diet.

do cardio and ab workout.

no junk food

fill up on protein, fruits and vegetables
run, do lots of cardio

Sit ups/ab workouts won’t help you much, you have to go for total cardio (i.e. elliptical machine, treadmill)

I’d just wear a corset.

thanks, but have any of you ever felt the need to eat for emotional reasons, and how do you not do that? (aside from just not doing: is there some way to get rid of the urge)
I know ab workouts won’t make you lose fat, but they’d still help gain muscle there.

btw, I"m not fat exactly, I have maybe 2-5 pounds on my stomach that I need to lose, but since I’m only 5’2 and an “apple-shaped” person, it makes more of a difference on me.

what kind of emotional reasons? depression or just day-to-day issues? love?

If you’re having sugar cravings, slowly sipping orange juice helps get rid of them by raising your blood sugar.

Not major depression or anything, more like just temporary mild depression. Started senior year new, don’t really connect to the school (I do have friends, but HS gets old, especially when everyone else is reminiscing about 3rd grade good times and I don’t have that. Also the part everyone hates: lame classes, beurocratic rules, lame schedule, etc). Mainly just senioritis and “I Can’t Wait to Go to College”-itis lol.

oooh thanks there is some frozen orange juice in the freezer. I’ve been eating plain oranges by themselves and that does really help. But when I’m at school and have cash I have the urge to eat pizza or something, even if I already ate my lunch I brought. Stuff just looks too good sometimes I guess.

I like that idea…thanks.

2-5 lbs on your stomach? when you lose fat you lose it from all over your body. You’ll be losing a lot more than 5 lbs to lose 5 off of your stomach.

If you feel the urge to eat for any reason other than hunger, wait 20 to 30 minutes before picking up that snack. There is a very good chance that the urge will go away within that timeframe and you won’t feel the need to put that unnecessary snack in your mouth.

don’t try to target the fat off that area. Just eat healthy (pretty much what was mentioned in this thread), and do cardio. I promise you, if you do both those things, you will look as hot as you want. For cardio, if you’re like me and hate running, you could swim :)

yeah just burn more calories than you intake.
although if you do get skinny, and then do sit-ups, (crunchs, twist crunches, bus drivers ect) you will gain the toned-firm look of having good abs

i heard somewhere that doing cardio gives u a similar effect as eating sugar. as in, a ‘feel good’ type of thing.

i should take my own advice, lol.

i love how some of these responses stem from biology. ahh, cc kiddies :D

smarteeangel101: Of course it does, it releases endorphins which give you that natural high feeling, or sugar rush feeling.

There’s no such thing as spot reduction, according to my PT.

Balanced diet + cardio + weight training

(BTW, I’m a girl so don’t trip on the weight training part. You will not end up looking like a steroid using wrestler, lol. Just add some weight training in the mix every other time you cardio.)

Diet(no starvation or temporary fad crap) is probably 90% of the battle. Cardio(in moderation) and weight training as the main component of your exercise routine is recommended. I say cardio in moderation because cardio alone will eat your muscles to shreds. I’m a guy and I experienced this. You see the skinny women who are still flabby running hours on the treadmill every day at the gym.

As for lifting, pink dumbells for high reps won’t cut it. You need to lift heavy(relative to your strength) and push yourself. Do compound movements.(squats, deadlifts, rows, bench press, etc.)

I feel the biggest barrier today for women achieving their physique goals is weight training. It’s still seems somewhat taboo for women to do it, but if done properly, it can do wonders for your body composition.(for both sexes)

^^Wait. How does cardio eat your muscles? My PT never mentioned that.
