Give me a dose of realism, please(:

hello everyone! i applied to cornell, and i didnt get an interview!!! i know that it doesnt have any relevance, but could you please chance me (with my updated scores and mid year results)? thank you!

Ethnicity: Indian by birth, singaporean by citizenship

GPA(unweighted, because weightage is not a concept in Spore) : 3.68
Freshman year: very bad results, because my grandma died while visiting us for the first time the week before my mid year exams, so i was basically screwed for the year.

so obviously grades arent working for me. ><

SAT scores: 2200 total, 730 WR, 720 CR, 750 M (super scored, took twice,2160 first time)
SAT2s: 800math2C,750bio, 800 chem

extracurriculars:

9th and 10th grade
was in top prep school, argueably the best in the region

teacher at local tuition centre (something like kumon i guess)
PR manager for tuition centre (add campaign etc)

tutor

thats it. clubs were kind of closed .

12th grade
Founder and prez Gyan Club (going to be expanded to whole district next year)
(its a non-profit tutoring business that i started. we basically tutor local kids at 11bucks an hour and we use all our profits to sponsor street children in india. its like a direct relationship between each tutor and kid, and we currently sponsor around 21.tons of groundwork and promotions, but twas all SO worth it(: one of my essays is about this, only its kind of more about helping poor children and education but this is one of the main aspects of what i did to help.)

Youth Action Team Prez
(so the youth action team is a board of highschool students interviewed and selected to organize events that help the community remain drug free etc. its technically a job and everyone else gets paid 10.40 per hour for doing stuff like putting up POSTERS, but sadly enough i dont have a work visa so im doing it for the experience and the community service. i'll basically have like 400h at the end of the year, because we have so many all day events and stuff. really great people and fun experience. my boss will be writing me a letter of rec, explaining how i decided to stay on even though i wasnt going to be paid.)

Smile club vice prez

Model UN vice prez (its a club at our school, we dont have a class)

CSF(no idea if this has an impact)

research at University of Calif Irvine UCI
(biophysics, around 8h/week, one of my essays is about this(common app). its basically drug research about the phospholipid membrane in the lungs, and its charecterizing the molecule to figure out how to make premature babies develop the membrane faster)

other classes:
french 3 at local community college
physics 3A over summer at UCI (my prof invited me to be his research assistant)A
Multivariable calc B+ (long story, got a 92 and the prof applied the curve when there were like 15 students in the class. and then he moved to china before we could argue.)

8aps by graduation, 2 in 11th grade

Senior grades (brace yourself!)
AP Chem: B
AP Stat B+(89.98)
AP Eng/lit: A
AP Econ: A
Photo: A

So, thats about it! my essays i think are pretty good. thus far, the main one is about this experience i had when i first went to india after a long time when i was around 11, and how it inspired me to do things like start gyan etc. the activity one is about research and why i do it (:

My why cornell major essay MAY not have been too good>< its for applied econ , and i plan to double major in bio and econ, so i talked about the APPLICATION of econ to helping the world (see, the problem is that i edited this other essay meant for a bio-business double major to fit this because i didnt have the TIME to do a new one, so im not so sure about it. id give it a 8/10 :( )

so, please chance me!(: thanks so much

pretty good chances....
Cornell likes people who try to focus in one activity like tutoring and ur GPA is fine since ur international.
but being internation could hurt ur application..

Impressive EC's indeed. I think you have a good chance as long as you've included everything you've told us here in your application. You've done some pretty amazing things and I think you should definitely highlight that in your essays and application. If all goes well, I think you should be in.

i think the word is reality, not realism...haha
but anyways, youre more qualified than the average applicant, so dont stress out too much...you just need that little bit of luck it takes to get into the ivies and youll be in

haha i agreee it is reality!but somehow i typed that and it wouldnt let me edit>< haha

thank you(: i didnt get to tell them about the grandma thing though...do you think that may matter?

yea ofcorse it does...ask ur guidance councilor to write a letter for u.
I had an appendicitis attack in the middle of my SAT due to which i didnt score as well as I normally could so my guidance wrote a seperate letter for that which prolly helped me.

id say 50 50. not outstanding but not down t here either

Just wondering, what is the biophysics component of your research at UCI?

oh we're charecterizing the phospholipid monolayer in our lungs by reducing its surface area and observing folds, vesicles etc(: its very useful, one application is to help premature babies develop the membrane faster and tehrefore save their lives!
