Give me reasons why UPenn is a good university

I dunno, I definitely think you should feel loyalty to your alma mater, but outside of that, you should just be respectful to all other schools. You'd be surprised at how skewed our perceptions can get, and how really amazing advancements in research and knowledge take place at unknown state schools sometimes, and on the flipside, how ridiculously snotty and ignorant some students can be at really elite sk00Ls. You just never know

I feel loyalty to my new postcount.

The Yalies come to the CC Penn board
And all I can’t think to say is, Oh Lord!
It’s sad they have nothing better to do
Than come online and insult me and you.
But as incredibly smart Quakers we know
The true reason for their ridiculous show:
They’re afraid of losing their US News rank
And having Penn—a “state school”— to thank.

Go ahead Yalies and insult our school, Penn
Because soon to come is the sweet time when
You’ll clutch your degree when asking for a job
But in the boss’s corner office you’ll let out a sob
Because a Quaker has also applied for the position
And matter no more will selectivity of admission.
Because the Quaker will be smarter than you.
Because Quaker actually had things to do
(instead of insulting other schools like a piece of poo;
And the Quaker will get the job, just to clarify.)

Let’s broaden this to all the jealous schools
If you doubt the might of Penn you are all fools.
Benjamin Franklin built a school that’s da ****,
And we don’t really care what your opinion is about it.
And don’t bother to show up during Fling
Because we’ll be in the Quad busily toasting
The success of our most mighty institution
And laughing at your prestige-prostitution.

I want to end this inspirational poem on a high note
So I’ll take one more stanza to gloat
About the glory that is our most wonderful Penn.
Thanks for giving us a school better than Yale, Uncle Ben!

if that isn't poetic genius, then i don't know what is...

Damn, I was actually thinking about applying to Yale; I must've been high. Gutrade, man, you MIGHT have some self esteem. Dude, forget about college, you need to get your b*lls to drop first.

Sorry for the crude language, but people like that just annoy the hell outta me.

btw, to stay on topic, Penn is a good college because it has the same colors as the CC forum.

njchino371: Don't let one person ruin your view of a school though... you should still apply to Yale as it's a great school.

Well, I was having doubts about applying at first because of my chances of getting in. I already have 8-9 schools, but was considering applying to Yale, Princeton, or Stanford, one of the super-reaches just as a "who knows, I might get lucky" kind of thing. I was going to pick Yale since it was a compromise between Princeton who was too close to me and stanford who was too far. Now, I dont know, I might just end up not applying to any of them.

I applied to 12 schools if it makes you feel any better :P You should apply to all three. It's worth trying.

jus wondering, which ones did u get into?

I got into Yale, Penn, Columbia, Brown, Georgetown, UVA, Tufts, UCLA, UC Berkeley, Lehigh, and Oregon State, but not Princeton.

wow, very impressive

Thanks... but yeah def. apply to PYS if you really want to. I almost applied to Stanford but so many others from my school were too and I wanted to go to the east coast.

Oh oh I don't know if anyone mentioned this already, but I remembered a reason why Penn is a good school!

Since it's bigger than many other schools of its caliber, you will have more alumni to network with.

I think that's important...I've heard a lot of people tell me about how they got hooked up with jobs and stuff just by contacting their alumni office and getting in touch with some successful/powerful alums. Enjoy your connections :p

legend, did u have insane stats or some kind of hook?

Valedictorian from Oregon?
Heheh

Ummm I don't know really. I had an SAT1 score well above 1500 and all my SAT2s were 760+, valedictorian of my high school (Full IB Diploma), first-generation student from Oregon (underrepresented state kinda... well it's moderate if you look at the numbers. Not nearly as underrepresented as say Wyoming). My ECs were actually pretty bad and generic but I had some work experience and an unofficial world record for Rubik's Cube speedsolving that I think helped a bit (I wrote my essay on it. That record is actually quite useless as it's unofficial. That, and the Cube is a useless skill. But it's just something to make yourself stand out amidst the masses I guess). My essays in general weren't that great but they weren't awful. Hmmm my recs were good too (one from my Physics teacher, one from my English teacher, and two from my current and past counselors). My old counselor's rec was really long. I can't think of anything else. My Princeton app was awful and the essays were synonymous with fecal matter, in digital form. I think the way you present your app means a lot...

Fecal matter in digital form...quite creative and gross there legend.

Yeah it explains why the adcoms didn't like it.

"What IS this s**t?"

Valedictorian...
