With what GPA should you consider re-thinking or giving up on continuing the pre-med track? And when?

If you are trying the usual track as you refer it must be Bio/Chem. There is no specific major and all are acceptable. The requirement is MCAT score and the ability to take enough Chem/Bio to get through that. What is it you are having trouble with?

well, I'm just asking because if I don't do well in the required premed courses: calculus, chem, bio, physics.... GPA is extremely important for medical school admission and why keep taking those courses if you are not getting good grades? Aren't you simply wasting time unless you decide to end the goal of "going to med school"? Statistics show that a large percentage of people who apply to med schools don't get in anywhere... I do not want to be pessimistic, just practical.

Below a 3.2 science GPA, your not really in that good of shape. This is not to say people below this won't get it. But once you go into the 2.0's for your GPA its not looking very good.

Spread your risk......get a strategy for taking your difficult classes or a longer period of time.......or at an easier institution. You list your age as 18 so I suspect you are either a Frosh or not yet in college. Surely it is not a new revelation to you what courses you are weak in. I'd say you have plenty of time to develop a better strategy......take additional courses for preparation to more difficult ones, get a private tutor. Your questions seem direct but I am hoping you are not already giving up on something you want.....seems a bit early.
