<p>During the January intersession, my daughter went to Ghana and had an “awesome” time. Not only did she learn a lot, but it was a good way to bond with the other people in the program. In March she co-chaired a committee that shared and presented the group’s experiences and travels. She got a lot of practical experience organizing this university-wide event. As a parent, I am impressed with the caring and knowledgeable faculty that are associated with the Global Citizenship program.</p>

First off, let me congratulate you for having been admitted to Lehigh University! This is certainly going to be the beginning of an unforgettable journey!</p>

<p>Now that you are pondering your best options, I would like to introduce you to a truly unique undergraduate program that, once again, distinguishes Lehigh University from other educational institutions. </p>

<p>The Global Citizenship Program is a cross-college, multi-disciplinary certificate program focusing on social and ethical responsibility and service in the global arena. The program admits 20-22 students each year, and provides them with a series of curricular as well as extra-curricular opportunities to complement their academic interests with a solid “global citizenship” component. Amongst the perks of the program, we are proud to be able to offer a generous merit-based scholarship covering most of the costs related to a first-year study abroad trip that will bring all admitted freshman students to visit a foreign developing country during the Winter intersession break (January 2010). After this first experience abroad, students are then encouraged to spend another period (preferably a whole semester) abroad in a country selected by them. As part of the program requirements, students will follow a structured curriculum during their freshman year, but they will then have the opportunity to customize their study plan choosing from a wide array of course offerings. </p>

<p>The Global Citizenship Program also features a residential component, the “Global Citizenship House,” where, effective their sophomore year, students will be able to live, share, and learn on a daily basis. Finally, the program fosters service, leadership, and civic engagement in the local as well as the global community. </p>

The application deadline is June 1, 2009. Please, due to the competitive nature of the program, be aware that applicants will have to provide additional writing samples and recommendation letters (neither the essays nor the letters can be transferred from their admissions file).</p>

<p>davidthegoose, this says only around 20 students are admitted, so i’d assume it is pretty competitive, but I don’t know how many apply for it.</p>
