Global Edge E-mail

Hello everyone,

Just received this e-mail from UCB Admissions:

“…Want to start your freshman year in an extraordinary way? Spend your summer at Berkeley then your fall semester abroad in London, Madrid, or Rome! If you are admitted to Berkeley, we invite you to learn about Global Edge, a program for newly admitted Berkeley freshmen…”

Do you guys know if this is a mass e-mail, or some type of sign? I know I’m probably over-thinking it, but I’m just so anxious! If anyone can give some insight.

thanks!

I got accepted early and got the same email. I don’t think it is a significant sign of admission or rejection. Good luck!

Looks like they are looking for additional volunteers to start in the spring. Under normal circumstances, fall enrollment is higher than spring enrollment (meaning overcrowding in the fall but wasted capacity in the spring), so getting students to start in the spring instead of fall evens out the enrollment. Previously, Global Edge was one of the options offered to those admitted to start in the spring.

Course offerings are limited, and all locations require reading and composition A and B, which may be useless duplication for those who score high enough on an AP English exam to be exempt from one or both parts. The London option also requires Math 1A, which may be useless duplication for those who score high enough on an AP calculus exam. The Madrid option requires Spanish, but allows starting in 1, 2, 3, or 4 (but not the heritage speaker courses 21 or 22) based on placement; the Rome option requires Italian 1 and 2 (no other placement options).
