Global Warming can't be happening. 10 Celsius (I think 50 F) at 22 degrees north???? No, I'm not living in the Himalayas.

Just seeing what reactions I'm gonna get.

lol. I love this argument against global warming, I hear it all the time. "How can global warming be happening? It keeps getting colder outside!"

I have the response down to a "T" and go in-depth with how global warming causes weather extremes, etc.

who cares. let the earth do what it needs to.

happy new yearrr

well, I know educated people are supposed to believe in it, etc, I went to a day of lectures at columbia and two professors disproved it-saying that the earth goes through tiny warming and heating cycles and that we're due for one. Also, people haven't kept great records, so it's hard to tell if the same thing happened in the 1400's, but cooled in the 1500's.

I do have to wonder to what extent this issue is hyperbolized for political reasons.

I hate conservative bigots. End of question.

Period.

.

The temperature's increasing...but global warming, from all I've seen, is, well, for lack of a better term.....a myth.

The Earth's temperature increases and decreases in cycles of hundreds of thousands of years, long before humans had anything to do with it. We're just in the middle of an increased stretch....weren't they repping global colding in the 70s?

It may or may not be exaggerated - but does that change the fact that we need to make our actions sustainable for the future? What's the argument here? "Oh, humans destroy the environment, but global warming does little. Therefore we should continue to club baby seals and drive 0.1231 mpg cars! Let's also chain smoke and slit our wrists because it doesn't matter!"

The point it that something needs to be done so that this pale blue dot of ours stays blue and ours for those who live her after us.

^Have you been living under a rock?

Look at all the things that are improving. I saw a 35 mpg car the other day, my parents' Chevrolet Tahoe takes Ethanol fuel (too bad none of the places around here have it :()...

Anyway. I doubt that it's an outright lie, I just think it's far too hyperbolized for political reasons, like handyandy said.

Do you appreciate the irony of your statement, Infinite_Truth? Someone may be skeptical of global warming without being a "conservative bigot."

doctordestiny has the right idea, as does HandyAndy. I blame Al Gore for focussing the entire environmental dialogue on global warming. The plain truth is that there is insufficient data to either prove or disprove the phenomenon, but that doesn't mean we don't need to change our destructive and wasteful habits.

HisGraceFillsMe, ethanol isn't a panacea that's going to singlehandedly solve our air polution problem and fossil fuel dependency. As efficient as cars are getting, there are more and more of them on the roads, and people are driving farther (to say nothing of the fact that for every hyperefficient car you see three or four gas-guzzling SUVs).

The only solution is to drive less. Unfortunately, due to the society we've developed, this would involve either a complete overhaul of the public transportation system or far-thinking urban and suburban development that allows people to live close to their places of employment (rather than commuting). Both would be ideal.

I don't believe that it is a farce, but the word "climate change" would probably be more scientifically accurate. An average rise in global temperature does not imply a uniform rise in temperature across the globe.

Obviously, like any situation, there are many opportunistic people who will exaggerate or misrepresent data one way or the other for personal gain.

The only thing which I find ironic is that the CO2 that is generated by fossil fuels must have been in the atmosphere in some ancient time before animals and plants stored carbon within their bodies in other organic forms.

Either way, weaning ourselves off of petrol should create new businesses (and hopefully more economic growth)

agreed, I believe it's good that people are thinking for solutions, saving fossil fuel etc, making planet safer, but I get annoyed when people watch a movie and don't educate themselves. I also don't think that signing Kyoto will make a difference if developing nations such as India and China do nothing. For example, I was in pittsburgh (known for bad smog, it's gotten better), and this Indian guy just randomly said to my family, "I love the air here, I go on a vacation every year to get away from the horrible smog of India"

Why do you think this has to be a partisan issue?

Then again, it does give off the impression that you know what you're talking about without actually have to say anything.

Who cares?

Very true, I just didn't feel like using the effort to type anything, so I just got my opinion across without any actual brain effort! Genius! =D

That is not a small variation in natural heating and cooling cycles. Climate change is real (and caused by us).

Oh, and don't criticize the source (Pew Center on Global Climate Change) without first looking at the bottom for the real sources - a couple papers from Nature and the U.S. Department of Energy.

I think we're all too concerned about college admissions to care about global warming...lol.

Well duh. I thought we all knew global warming was a heat up of politics caused by liberals.

Remember global cooling in the 70's lol :)

alright. i guess its time i share my real opinions. i think its a complete load of crap. there's far more issues that need to be dealt with NOW, and global warming is certainly not one of them. we have brilliant minds around the world trying to improve technology to help relieve the stress we put on our environment, and that's great ... but, so much advertising? rallies? protests? are you serious?

i still can't believe al gore took home the nobel peace prize. ***?
i read an article and i certainly agree, that in some cases we need to evaluate how legitimate the comittees can be in awarding the prizes.

in any case, i think the majority of our efforts / advertising should be aimed towards global poverty and hunger. as a previous poster said, brilliant minds around the world have proven that global warming isn't really what its been made out to be, and thats its a natural process the earth must undergo every now and then, to say the least. but, i support technological innovation that seeks to reduce negative emissions into the environment and atmosphere.

but damn, i'm still stuck on how gore won the damn prize. his stupid movie wasn't even accurate.

just my 2 cents.
