GM Scholarships

Does anyone know specifics on GMU scholarships available for incoming freshman. Is there much merit $$ available? How does one apply, or is it automatic upon submitting an application? Has anyone received any offers of merit awards from GMU?

To be considered for scholarship you had to turn in a scholarship essay by the 1st of December.

Ok, that was on the application. And a Recommendation was sent in by a teacher. So do you know the next step?

Maybe just wait? That's what I'm doing, If you turned in your app before Dec 1st but after the EA period you won't recieve a decision until April from what I understand, and I assume that's when we would find out if we got a scholarship let alone admittance. I would say to just play the waiting game.

Well, an acceptance letter came today, but that's it. Basically the envelop contained the acceptance and a credit card authorization to place a deposit, along with some marketing material. That's why I wonder what the procedure is.

oh, well I don't know what to tell you then, maybe still wait, maybe you won't receive any scholarship info until the middle of January. GMU is very screwy like that, it took them almost a month to say that they received my application materials.

Merit based aid will not arrive until all of the applications have been processed, ie April. Financial Aid will come within the next couple of weeks but they cannot give out scholarships until they have reviewed the entire applicant pool.

That doesn't make sense to me in light of the fact that all scholarship apps had to be in by 12/1. What am I missing? Is there something else that needs to be done? How can there be more applicants in the pool, if all applicants desiring consideration needed to be in by 12/1?

I don't know the answer to that, but I do know that GMU will probably not award someone a merit-based scholarship without first admitting them, and seeing how decisions are released in early April, one would deduce that merit-based aid will not arrive until after that deadline. You could always pick up the phone and call them.

You're right, the 'scholarship' deadline was after the "EA" deadline, so now that they've done EA, I guess they need to do the scholarships. I'll call and post anything I find out, although it seems that no one else is concerned about this.

Thanks for discussing.

Yeah, I am concerned because I just got deffered from my numero uno school and now it looks like I'll probably be attending, which I am pretty excited about. I am just guessing about the merit aid but please keep us posted. What is your expected major/field of study?

Hello everybody! Does anyone know what kind of grades and leadership roles winners of the gms scholarship usually have?
