GMAT vs SAT

I am a high school student and I just want to know is the GMAT like the SAT. I mean I am not the greatest at "school" math but got a 770 on the SAT and a 760 on the SAT math 1 which is like the 98th percentile. Like I said i am not the best at school math but SAT math is a little different as it is more logic based. I didn't do so hot on the verbal and got a 610. The new writing section screwed me but really didn't. Most schools said that they would not look at the writing section this year so i didn't study much but i got a 580 and i didn't feel like retaking it for the writing(i can't do much better on the reading)

My question is, is the Gmat at all similar to the SAT? For those who have taken it do you think your percentiles match at all the percentiles you got on the SAT? I am going to UMCP because it is instate and i can get a ton of opportunities for internships(my family has friends and I am in a top 100 minority owned business in Maryland right now for an internship) but I am still looking at Penn state(got in with some program), Texas(unlikely), Michigan(maybe at LSA but most definately not ross), and Wisconsin(likely).

All help is appreciated.
Thanks!

I know a lot of you have taken both so....

It's like that SAT in some respects. They're both standardized, they both test math and verbal skills. But the GMAT is on the computher, and it's an adaptive test. So the test will adapt to you based on if you got the previous question correct. If you get a question right, the next question will be more difficult. If you get it wrong, then the next will be easier. The verbal section of the GMAT has three types of questions - reading comprehension, sentence correction, and critical reasoning. The quant section has two types of questions - problem solving and data sufficiency.

They're two different tests, but I figure if you do well on the SAT you're probably likely to do better on the GMAT than someone who got a low SAT score.

I don't know what my percentile on the SAT was, but my GMAT was in the 99th.

thanks, you did extremely well. Did studying help or was it something that either you will be good at it or you will be bad?

I definitely studied. You can't do well without studying - trust me. I guess you can do okay, but by studying you can probably increase your score by at least 100 points. I think I got a 570 on the first diagnostic test I took without studying, and my actual GMAT score was almost 200 points higher. But since you're in high school, I wouldn't worry about the GMAT right now. You're seriously six or seven years away from taking the test, so don't think you have to prepare for it now. By the time you're ready to take it, it could be a completely different test.
