GMU VS VCU

Still can’t decide between GMU and VCU. Any suggestions will be helpful.
FYI: Planning on majoring in Finance and minor in engineering. GMU is 10 mins drive from where I live, a little bit too close since I really wanted to live on campus and have dorm experience.(If I go to GMU I cannot live on Campus)

I live quite close to GMU also, but I lived on campus my freshman year (it’s actually not uncommon to see local students who choose to live on campus), so it’s definitely possible. I guess my answer is going to be a bit biased, but I would recommend you choose GMU.

If you do end up deciding to live on campus, it’s a good experience. It’s not that big of school so a lot of freshman and upperclassman dorms are close to your classes. Also, I feel it’s much safer than VCU. The only downside would be that GMU is a commuter school, so the weekends are pretty quiet.

In terms of academics, the classes are also good (at least the ones I’ve taken–it might depend on your major). Since the school is close to DC, there’s a lot of job and internship opportunities.

@overbyen (Thank you for you reply!) Academic wise I’m leaning towards GMU a little more, but I’ve heard that as a commuter school the social scene for George Mason is drag. There’s is hardly any college experience that one’ll get. On the other hand, VCU has better campus life than GMU (according to past students)and seem to have a good social scene for students, which is where one get that whole “college experience” from. Since you’ve attended GMU, how is the social life there?
