UVA or GMU?

I’ve been accepted to both UVA and GMU and am unsure about which to attend. Please help me out with my decision.

UVA: Pro is its cheaper (scholarships and financial aid), but not by too much. Its a high ranked school and is rigorous and reputable. Con is I’d have to stay on a dorm, and I don’t like the idea of a dorm, plus I couldn’t live with family.

GMU: Pro is that GMU is drivng distance, I would get to stay with my family and live with parents, which I’d like. Con is I feel like rejecting UVA would be a missed opportunity, plus I worked really hard in high school. Also, GMU slightly more exspensive (9k to 10K over 4 years) and I would need to buy a car.

For my major, I’m undecided. If I went to UVA I could only do something engineering or computer science related. At GMU, I would probably do management or something tech related.

Thank u!!

My advice would to not live at home during college unless you have to. Meeting people and being on your own is one of the best parts.

You can switch majors at UVA so you are not locked in.

Unless it is for financial reasons, I would not suggest commuting to a non-commuter school.

UVA for obvious reasons – prestigious and cheaper.

UVA.
#1, cost
#2, experience. It’s the one time in your life when you can step out of your comfort zone and jump in with both feet - at the same time hundreds of others are doing the exact same thing at the exact same time. C’ville is a wonderful place to discover who you are and to create memories.

UVA: it’s less expensive and will provide you with a full experience.
At worst, if you don’t like it, it’s relatively easy to transfer from uva to gmu. (Transferring from Gmu to uva is very difficult.)
Taking UVA’s offer means you have more choices.
You aren’t locked into your major freshman year at all so take classes that can be used for different majors (calculus, English, gen eds…) and do well in them.
I know that your 17-year old self is uncomfortable with the idea of leaving home but do you think your 20-year old self will want to be in their childhood bedroom?
